College sport has a loyal traveling fan base. Supporters of programs like Auburn are known for following their teams across the country, and when big college games come to a neutral site, the question is whether those crowds will turn up again. Las Vegas, with its hotels, entertainment and large venues, is an obvious draw for traveling fans.
Why Las Vegas appeals to traveling fans
- Venues built for big crowds. Allegiant Stadium holds 65,000 for football under a translucent roof, and has been home to the UNLV Rebels and Las Vegas Raiders since 2020.
- Indoor arenas such as T-Mobile Arena and MGM Grand Garden Arena sit right on or beside the Strip.
- Plenty to do around the game, from shows to days out in the desert.
- A close airport. Harry Reid International Airport is about five miles south of downtown.
Planning a game trip
- Book accommodation early for big weekends, when the city fills up.
- Plan your route to the venue. Allegiant Stadium is west of the Strip across Interstate 15; crowds and closures are normal on game day. See Getting Around the Strip.
- Read the bag policy on the venue's website before you leave your hotel.
- Respect the heat. Tailgates and walks to the stadium can be very hot, especially early in the season. See Beating the Desert Heat.
Making a weekend of it
Many fans add a show the night before or after the game. Choosing a Resident Show helps you decide, and Days Out Off the Strip suggests ideas such as Red Rock Canyon's scenic drive. Game Day in Las Vegas covers the day itself in more detail.
Tickets
Helios Club is an independent journal and does not sell or resell tickets. For college games, the official routes are usually the schools' own ticket offices and the venue's authorized partner. Read Buying Show Tickets Safely before paying anyone.
